Founder/Founder

I am a teacher, homeschool consultant, course designer, mother of two, and advocate for creativity.

I went from being a “checkbox” teacher to helping thousands of parents build the ideal homeschool curriculum that embraces creativity, confidence, and real-world connections. The shift from mainstream teacher to homeschool guru wasn’t an easy one. There were lots of hesitations along the way.

When I finally did “take the leap” I was plagued with doubts about my approach and an overwhelming sense of fear that made my journey way harder than it needed to be.

I had to completely let go of what I had been taught to do and get over the idea that education had to look a certain way. When I finally did just that, the results were incredible.

Teaching became so enjoyable, so exciting and so inspiring that even the most difficult life challenges seemed manageable. In letting go of my ideas about what education SHOULD be, I became the teacher I wish I had as a child.

Long hours spent in front of the computer to justify a new curriculum approach.

Painful “heart-to-hearts” with parents of children struggling in an unsupportive system.

Botched learning approaches.

Wasted money on fancy books and resources.

Half-completed curriculum.

And so many more heartaches along the way.

When I finally did gain traction, the joy and creativity and wonder I saw in my students was contagious

I realized I had been approaching learning the wrong way: literally. I was so focused on the content that I forgot about the process. So focused on the report card checkboxes that I forgot the child behind the words and numbers. So focused on the RIGHT approach that I couldn’t see there wasn’t just ONE.

When I finally discovered the secret to a child’s success, I never looked back. And best of all… My students and I began to learn, really learn, for the first time.

How?

By leveraging each child’s innate, intuitive gifts and strengths through Project-Based Learning

Now I teach what I know to parents and teachers around the world.

About Project-Based Learning

What was your favourite birthday party as a child? What elements made it fantastic and memorable?

Just as your parents were able to stage the perfect party, re-creating this “make-believe” world is totally doable as your child’s educational experience.

Children learn best in a stimulating, playful environment. PBL begins and ends with the child. Start by asking them to brainsottm all of their interests. Teach your child to “mindmap” during the process. At the centre of the page, draw a circle with lines branching off (like a sunshine). Write “things that I would love to learn about”

Project-based learning (PBL) helps students to build critical thinking skills, communication skills and work habits through hands-on, visual and traditional learning.

EVERY THREE MONTHS we cover three new themes as entry points for math, socials studies and science. Students use mini-projects, conversations, research, writing assignments and a collaborative presentation (with parents at the end of each Unit).
